A major goal of the PAHO / WHO Collaborating Centre is critical information dissemination and knowledge sharing with a focus on nursing workforce development in the regions of the Americas. Initiatives in this area include:

Global distance education resources are available to the international community of nurse clinicians, nurse educators, and nursing students via free online access in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

SONHS Redesignated as PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre

The World Health Organization (WHO) has re-designated the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies as a Pan American Health Organization/WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Human Resources Development and Patient Safety for the next 4-year cycle. The prestigious SONHS designation has been in place since 2008. The school is one of only 10 nursing-related WHO Collaborating Centres in the nation, and one of 42 in the world.
A Collaborating Centre is an institution designated by the WHO Director-General as part of a global collaborative network that carries out activities in support of the WHO’s programs.
