12th Iberoamerican Conference on Nursing Education of the ALADEFE (Latin American Association of Schools and Colleges of Nursing) University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty and staff, including the leadership of our WHO Collaborating Centre, joined their global partners in promoting and exchanging knowledge regarding nursing education and research among collaborating institutions at this biennial conference in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Director of our WHO CC moderated a symposium session on nursing education at this event, and our Deputy Director delivered a presentation on student exchange programs in the nursing curriculum.

24th International Nursing Research Congress of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing: "Bridge the Gap Between Research and Practice Through Collaboration".
University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty and staff, including the leadership of our WHO Collaborating Centre, participated in this international forum on evidence-based practices and solutions, where they networked with other nurse researchers, clinicians, educators, policy makers, and administrators from diverse backgrounds. Our faculty disseminated their work via scientific oral and poster presentations at this event, while learning more about what nurse scientists from around the globe are doing to advance the science of nursing using innovation and new technologies. International Council of Nurses 25th Quadrennial Congress: Equity and Access to Health Care/Equidad y acceso a los cuidados de salud/ Equité et accès aux soins de santé
The leadership of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies and the Director of our WHO Collaborating Centre joined nursing leaders from all over the world in Melbourne, Australia for this conference, which brought together evidence, experience and innovations highlighting the critical importance of equity and access to health care for communities and individuals, demonstrating how nurses are key to ensuring equal access and quality of health care for all. The Congress provided a global platform for the dissemination of nursing knowledge and leadership across specialities, cultures and countries via the ICN scientific programme, featuring keynote and main session invited speakers as well as a wide range of concurrent sessions including dynamic papers.

XIII Pan American Nursing Research Colloquium: “Global Nursing Research Challenges for the New Millennium” Hosted by the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies and the Scientific Advisory Committee would like to thank all participants who joined us in Miami for the XIII Pan American Nursing Research Colloquium. Final numbers show nearly 1,000 registered participants, representing 40 countries and 6 continents. The scientific program included 417 breakout session presentations and 492 poster presentations. We hope everyone has returned to their respective countries and regions of the world re-energized and committed to achieving our ultimate conference objective: to further the field of nursing research in a way that ultimately results in improved healthcare for individuals, families and communities on a global scale. We appreciate the valuable contributions of our keynote speakers, panelists, abstract reviewers, moderators, and all who prepared papers and posters for this very successful and productive conference.

Nursing: Caring to Know: Knowing to Care
University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty, including the leadership of the WHO Collaborating Centre, participated in the first international nursing conference dedicated to providing an opportunity for nurses from all over the world to share leading nursing interventions and ideas in various topics, all related to “caring”. Our faculty presented a symposium on A Program of Nursing Research to Reduce Health Disparities and HIV/AIDS among U.S. Hispanics.

VIII Meeting of the International Network of Nursing and Patient Safety Experts
The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies WHO Collaborating Centre hosted this international meeting, attended by representatives from the International Network for Nursing and Patient Safety (RIENSEP) from throughout the PAHO region. Products of meeting included redesigned Nursing and Patient Safety free online course, preliminary work for development of curriculum guide to standardize integration of patient safety into undergraduate curricula on a global scale, and redesign of RIENSEP website for maximum international visibility and the promotion of patient safety.

Dr. Nilda (Nena) P. Peragallo Montano, Dean of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies and WHO Collaborating Centre Director, joined 42 international health partners from 21 countries in Latin American and Caribbean regions to identify priorities and alternatives in nursing teaching technology. In this meeting, organized by the Pan American Health Organization, discussion focused on needs and opportunities for inter-network collaboration in nursing education.

Pan American Network of Nursing and Midwifery Collaborating Centres (PANMCC) Annual Meeting Aspects of our Centre’s work highlighted at this annual meeting included the success of the recently launched Nursing and Patient Safety free online course and our Centre’s leadership role and contributions to PANMCC’s Oral History Project. It was announced at this meeting that PANMCC 2012 will take place in Miami on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, as a companion activity to theXIII Pan American Nursing Research Colloquium.

University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty and staff, including the leadership of our PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre , joined their global partners in promoting and exchanging knowledge regarding nursing training and research processes among internationally collaborating institutions at this biennial conference. School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty presentations covered international mobility, HIV risk behaviors, and HIV prevention in adolescents and women. At the Showcase of Schools, our booth disseminated information on upcoming WHO Collaborating Center activities, on our School’s academic programs, and on the recently launched Nursing and Patient Safety free online course.
