Publications

The research and educational initiatives of our PAHO / WHO Collaborating Centre have resulted in several publications. Published and in-process contributions to the field include the following:

  • A peer-reviewed publication disseminates information about the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies’ “Increasing Capacity at Hospital Universitaire Justinien in Response to Haiti Earthquake” project:

  • A technical report on the inter-related issues of nursing shortage, safe patient care, and nursing migration to the U.S. from within the PAHO region was completed in February 2012 by the Director of our WHO CC and Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Studies Dr. Nilda (Nena) P. Peragallo Montano, WHO CC staff member Dr. Adriana Arcia and our PAHO advisor Dr. Silvina Malvarez. The resulting manuscript is currently under review for publication at the Journal of Transcultural Nursing.
  • Our WHO CC faculty members Susana Barroso, Dr. Johis Ortega, and Dr. Nilda (Nena) P. Peragallo Montano (WHO CC Director and School of Nursing and Health Studies Dean), in collaboration with the PAHO PALTEX program, co-authored an international book on nursing and patient safety, “Enfermería y la Seguridad de los Pacientes”. Our WHO CC’s chapter focuses on the use of simulation in nursing education and the impact of simulation on patients [Capitulo 30, “Métodos de educación para la seguridad de los pacientes: los escenarios de simulación”/ Chapter 30: Teaching strategies for the promotion of patient safety: Simulation scenarios”].  This book was formally launched at the XIII Pan American Nursing Research Colloquium, hosted by our Collaborating Centre from September 5-7, 2012 in Miami, Florida.
  • The Director of our WHO CC and Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Studies, Dr. Nilda (Nena) Peragallo Montano and faculty member Dr. Johis Ortega, contributed the following publication to the field:
